What's has been working for me so far:
1) Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is said to burn between 300-500 calories a day! That's as many calories as I used to burn at the gym except with breastfeeding you're just sitting on the couch with your little one (okay it's not as simple as that!). During the first 2-3 weeks post-partum, breastfeeding causes your uterus to contract which further flattens your tummy.
2) Daily walks
Sydney and I go on walks each day even when it's cold! Our pediatrician recommended going on walks each day in areas that aren't crowded. He said that walks have shown to help with fussiness/colic and are extremely beneficial to a baby's health. The natural light helped bring down Sydney's jaundice and also gave her some fresh air!
3) Healthy Eating & Staying Hydrated
Sydney is exclusively breastfed and has a pretty sensitive stomach (anything delicious.. dairy, garlic, soy, beans, all the good veggies) so this pretty much rules out all processed food. But - this is great because I am forced to eat healthy! Also, when I go out - I can really only order salads because I'm not sure what all the ingredients are in the main dishes. Besides her sensitivities, I avoid soda and ALWAYS have a water bottle with me. I have an obsession with water bottles and love my BKR (so chic) and my Camelbaks... but nothing beats the huge bottle they give you during delivery.
4) Tracy Anderson Post-Partum work out video
I recently started this post-partum work out video by Tracy Anderson. I LOVE it! I love that their isn't techno music blaring in the background and Tracy's gentle encouraging tone. The video targets abs, thighs, butt, and arms using barre and pilate techniques. I'm happy that there isn't a lot of jumping around like most videos because that is the last thing I want to do right now! But don't be fooled - this video kicks my butt and you will feel sore the next day! However, it is not overwhelmingly hard. I found the lowest price for the Tracy Anderson DVD on amazon for $12.
5) Clothes that suck you in!
My stomach still feels like jelly so I am always wearing a tank top underneath my shirt especially while working out. The Motherhood seamless tank is tight and thick enough to suck me in while working out (and going out)! I still don't completely feel comfortable in my clothes yet and have become obsessed with Spanx leggings. They are truly god's gifts to earth. They are thicker than normal leggings and completely hide my baby belly and slim my legs.
If you have any advice, please let me know!
